Bay Head Yacht Club - Sanderling Open Race

John Wanamaker Trophy

The Wanamaker Trophy, officially the "John Wanamaker Commercial Institute Open Race", was originally given to the winner of an open catboat race on July 30, 1921. The race was won by Virginia, an Island Heights catboat.

Today the trophy is awarded to the winner of an annual race for cruising catboats over a long course.  The race is currently sailed in Sanderlings on the Metedeconk River as the first race of the Fall Series.
