Bay Head Yacht Club - Open Race Winner
Christine Rehmann Adams Memorial Trophy
This trophy has been awarded since 1995 to the winner of a long race in Sandpipers open to all BBYRA member clubs. It was held near the Green Island course in conjunction with the John Wanamaker trophy Race for Sanderlings. In 2004 the event was modified to be the first race of the Fall Series for Sandpipers and has been held on the Metedeconk River.
Named in memory of Christine Rehmann Adams, the perpetual trophy is a silver pitcher originally awarded to the yacht Lilia as second prize in a Bay Head Yacht Club open regatta sailed on August 11, 1894. Christine Adams was an ardent supporter of her children's passion for competing in Lightnings, Penguins, escows and B-Cats. The Sandpipers came after her death in 1985. Her daughter-in-law Tay and son Bob dedicated this trophy as a memorial to this dear, quiet lady who loved competitive sailing from the sidelines.
