SAYC A Cat Race Winner

The BBYRA Scorers Cup

The Scorers Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the first race for the A Cat fleet on SAYC's Bay Day. The Cup was donated by Don Turner in 1993, In honor of the many people who spent countless hours scoring races. Going back, all scoring was done by the official scorer by hand and kept in a 'score book' which looked like the thickest binder you have ever seen. Before there was low point scoring system of today, high point percentge was used. Scorers, such as one-time SAYC member and BBYRA scorer Harold Lewry, would have to do a decent amout of arthmetic and satistics each Saturday to calculate and distribute the series standings. Thus the was donated in honor of all the time and effort that BBYRA scorers have but forth so that sailors may enjoy the sport they love.

It was decided to present the award to the A Cat fleet because at the time, SAYC had several members sailing on the brand new A Cat 'Ghost'.
